About the reading of „Infinitissimo-The Man Who Fell Through Time. A Novel“ by Holly-Jane Rahlens

On getting into the room, a lot of pupils are already there, looking for the perfect seat. You see, it is very important to be able to see everything but also, if required, to take a little nap.

The author greets every student that sits down in the first row indidvidually. It is almost like she is not the main reason why everyone has assembled here. I am positively surprised at how down to earth and honest she seems when she introduces herself. Not one of those authors who put themselves into the spotlight instead of their book.

From time to time she switches from German to English especially when she cannot think of the fitting German word. At first I wonder what her first language may be, since she is so fluent in both, but after a while I notice her American accent.

Holly-Jane Rahlens reads parts of her new book „Infinitissimo“ to us. Strangely enough it was first published in a German translation some years ago, and now it is available in the English original.  It is written from the perspective of a young historian, Finn Nordstrom, in the year 2264 who has to translate the diary of a German teenage girl that lived in the early twenty-first century.

The first chapter starts pretty sudden. However the more we adjust to the characters and the setting, the more intrigued I am not only by the humor, but the overall idea of the book.

All in all I would definitely recommend the novel to anyone who is interested in how the future world might throw a perspective on today’s „normal“ lifestyle, but also to all who like fiction, since the book includes time travel.
